Since Maji na Ufanisi was established in 1997, it has done some highly reputable work in conjunction with poor urban and rural communities’ to improve their access to WES services. MnU’s creative approach in working with poor urban communities is unique and widely accepted as a good tool for advocacy. Unfortunately such information and experience have not been adequately documented and disseminated or used to inform policy processes in Kenya and beyond. Therefore MnU’s identity has been perceived as purely service provision while in fact, its core business aims at empowering communities to find their own WES solutions.
Over the next five years, Maji na Ufanisi plans to strengthen its advocacy work by establishing proper mechanisms to advocacy, mobilizing resources from different partners such as Christian Aid and Water Aid, as well as using ANEW (African CSO Network on Water and Sanitation – whose headquarters are located at Maji na Ufanisi. To do this effectively, Maji na Ufanisi will develop internal skills, advocacy tools and strategies to be able to inform and influence policy processes with particular attention given to urban poor, rural and small towns.
